Wildlife

We are lucky to have a family of the worlds smallest primates close by the Blue House. They feed on small vertebrates, some fruits, nectar and also the sap of specific trees. The holes they gnaw in the bark to stimulate the flow of the sap can clearly be seen in this photograph of one of our troop.

Of course, we do not make a habit of interfering with the wildlife, but this was an exceptional event.

An eagle was making off with this young marmoset but Manuel (head of Horticulture/ Farming) happened to see what was happening and, when the eagle dropped it, the bewildered baby was rescued and returned to a nearby tree close to where Tedy and Manuel thought the mother had moved. While they were deciding where best to put him, we took the opportunity to have a quick look at him.

If you look closely, when the camera pans upwards, you can see what may be the mother moving through the trees.
